Join expert milliner Judy Bentinck to create an elegant cabochon rose hat. Discover how to make this striking hat using careful sewing and measuring. Improve your sewing skills in a friendly and supportive environment. This one day course is an opportunity for students to further their skills and knowledge and create this sensational piece. It will fit well within the Hat Week schedule, as it is a couture technique that has not been taught in previous years, and it will enable students to produce a beautiful hat suitable for Royal Ascot and other special occasions. This course will be held on Zoom from Judy's studio in central London. You will be supported in your learning by practical demonstrations and individual tuition. Judy has over 14 years of experience in teaching millinery techniques and will guide you every step of the way. During this exciting one-day course for London Hat Week you will learn the following: -How to create a wired and interfaced coolie hat base, from either sinamay or buckram. -How to plan, measure, cut and stitch bias strips of your chosen fabric to create the cabochon rose design. -How to make the lining and accurately sew it in to fit the hat. -How to carefully bind the outer edge of the hat using self fabric. A ribbon trim or braid can be added if you choose to. -Elastic can be used to secure the hat to the head, alternative methods can be discussed during the course. MATERIALS: Materials for the base and interface will be supplied. Please provide 1m of your chosen fabric: it needs to be lightweight but stable, such as a silk or fine cotton.
